What Hydraulic Boat Steering Cylinder Does My Engine Use

Hydraulic boat steering cylinder's come in several differential sizes based on volume, stroke, Inside diameter and output force. Engine application make, year and hp will also determine the correct cylinder for your application including. Last is your boat  application weather it is  outboard, sterndrive or inboard application. When determining what the correct hydraulic boat steering cylinder is we start first with engine application.

First is to determine what boat application do I have. Is my boat driven with a outboard, sterndrive or Inboard. This will determine what cylinder I can use for my boat hydraulic steering system with new installs or upgrades. If you needing to just replace a cylinder, you have now, then you should replace it with the same make and model as long as it is the correct cylinder.

After engine applications the next step is to determine how many engines we have in our application and what the hp is total.  Hydraulic boat steering cylinders need to be matched to your application correctly or you will have a boat that will not steer correctly and will become unsafe for your passengers as well as you and other boaters on the water.

The application guides listed below are for reference only. These recommendations should be used as a general reference. For any further information please contact our sales staff or contact a certified marine technician for correct application and install.

UC81-OBF Front Mount Hydraulic Outboard Steering Cylinder

UC81-OBF - Balanced: the number of turns lock-to-lock is equal port to starboard and vice-versa. Depending on the applications on the outboard engine, the UC81-OBF can be installed port or starboard. The UC81-OBF is intended only for single engine applications up to 115 hp.

UC94-OBF/1 and OBF/3 Front Mount Hydraulic Outboard Steering Cylinder

Adjustable boss style fittings for easy installation High resistance stainless steel connection bolt (ULTRABOLT) Intended for single engine applications of 150 HP and under, the UC94 cylinder is compatible with competing helms, hoses and oil, and is built to last with heavy duty stainless steel cylinder rod, seals and link assemblies. Constructed of top grade materials this cylinder is simple to install and fits almost every two and four stroke outboard engine in the market. See the application guide to ensure compatibility with your engine. The UC94 is recommended for use with the UP20 series helm and pre-made hose kits (Kit OB and Kit OB-BHBR). INNOVATIVE DESIGN (PATENTED): Split and pinned mounting rod for easy installation and bushings to prevent friction with engine tilt tube. Depending on the applications on the outboard engines, the UC94-OBF cylinder is available in 2 versions:

UC128-OBF/1, OBF/2 and OBF/3 Front Mount Hydraulic Outboard Steering Cylinder

UC128P-OBF/1 OBF/2 Hydraulic Outboard Steering Cylinders Port Mount Dual Engine The UC128 cylinder is built to last with heavy duty stainless steel cylinder rod, seals and link assemblies. Constructed of top grade materials, this cylinder is simple to install and fits almost every 2 and 4 stroke outboard engine in the market. See the application guide next page to choose the appropriate cylinder (UC128-OBF/1, UC128-OBF/2 or UC128-OBF/3) for your application. The UC128 cylinders are recommended for use with UP25, UP28, UP33 and UP39 series helms and preassembled hoses (Kit OB and Kit OB/R5).

The UC128-OBF comes in three different versions based on engine Make, Model and Year. See application guide to ensure compatibility with your engine.

UC130/1-SVS UC130/2-SVS UC130/3 Front Mount Hydraulic Outboard Steering Cylinder

Specially designed for high performance, high torque applications the SilverSteer™ UC130-SVS cylinder is  recommended for bass boats, flat boats and tournament fishing boats. The UC130-SVS is built to last with heavy duty stainless steel cylinder rod, seals and link assemblies.  Constructed of top grade materials this cylinder is simple to install and fits almost every 2 and 4 stroke outboard engine in the market. See the application guide to choose the appropriate cylinder (UC130-SVS/1, UC130-SVS/2 or UC130-SVS/3) for your application.

UC133-IOB UC132-OBS Sterndrive and Side-mount Outboard Hydraulic Steering Cylinder

UC133-IOB is a Sterndrive cylinder. It is balanced the equals the number of turns lock to lock. The UC132-OBS is a unbalanced cylinder with the number of turns lock to lock is not equal to port or starboard vise versa. The UC132-OBS is used on Sterndrive's applications as well but, is also used on outboard applications. In outboard applications the UC132-OBS is used as a side mount cylinder where there is not enough area side to side in the splash well area of the transom, to accommodate a front mount hydraulic cylinder. The UC132-OBS is not to be used in applications where the boat can exceed above 50mph.The guide below is to be used as a general reference only.

UC69-I UC116-I UC168-I UC215-I Balanced: the number of turns lock-to-lock is equal port starb vice-versa.

All balanced cylinders: the number of turns lock-to-lock is equal port to starboard and vice-versa. Inboard hydraulic steering cylinders have many variables and applications for all inboard boats starting at 33' up to 66' in length. Rudder, torque and speed determines what cylinder can be used for your application. We offer all cylinders in complete Inboard hydraulic steering kits for these specific Inboard application. Things to determine and consider when selecting a new or replacement Inboard hydraulic cylinder is steering wheel lock to lock turns, hydraulic hose length and materials. Hydraulic hose can be flexible up to 50' and has to be hard lined copper 51' feet or longer. Last consideration is the steering helm which needs to match the cylinder. The diagrams below are only for recommendations and should be used as a reference only. Please contact our sales staff or a certified marine technician for further assistance on your Inboard hydraulic steering cylinder needs.
